Within the Pomo civilization, everyone was treated as equals. There were, however, the headman who were considered higher on the social pyramid. The headmen lived in the main village. Otherwise, everyone else would live in small villages. There were several hundred small villages, but only 75 main villages. Each group or village owned a certain land where they would typically hunt and fish. Every once in a while, a single person could own as much land as an entire village.
